Job and “task” scams

How it works

1. The offer

   A WhatsApp message or text: “Earn money from home, a few minutes a day.”¹

2. Small pay

   Simple tasks, and at first you really get paid a little.

3. The deposit

   To unlock better tasks you must top up your account, often in crypto.

4. The loss

   Your “earnings” grow on screen but cannot be withdrawn.

What the evidence says

• Job fraud is one of the three most costly fraud types in Canada. In Switzerland, fake job offers drove a doubling of reported cyber incidents in late 2023.²¹

Warning signs

• A job you never applied for.
• You have to pay to work.
• The “recruiter” only uses WhatsApp or Telegram.

Protect yourself

• A real job never asks you to pay.
• Look up the company yourself, not through their link.
